We are currently seeking an Advanced Marine Technician with Yamaha and Mercury Qualifications. This will be a full-time position with benefits. ADVANCED OUTBOARD TECHNICIAN JOB DESCRIPTION

Proficiency and training in all aspects of outboard troubleshooting and repairs, including but not limited to: Repair and Maintenance of electrical and mechanical equipment of outboard boat engines.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Observe equipment in operation to detect potential problems. Start motors and monitor performance for signs of malfunctioning, such as smoke, excessive vibration, or misfiring.
  • Document inspection and test results and work performed or to be performed.
  • Mount motors to boats and operate boats on waterways to conduct operational tests.
  • Repair defective engines or engine components.
  • Perform routine engine maintenance such as changing oil and filters.
  • Replace worn, damaged, or defective mechanical parts.
  • Inspect and repair or adjust propellers or propeller shafts.
  • Adjust boat components according to specifications to ensure optimal performance.
  • Disassemble equipment for maintenance or repair.
  • Repair electrical circuits or wiring.

Required Skills

  • Mounting and rigging of outboard motors
  • Diagnose and repair all outboards, both conventional and D.E.C engines
  • Proficient in the use of computer diagnostic tools
  • Proficient in the installation and repair of vessels 12v DC systems
  • Proficient in the installation and repair of outboard hydraulic steering systems.
  • Must have the proper tools to perform the trade.
  • Certifications from Yamaha and/or Mercury required.
  • Willingness to take classes or courses as needed to advance your training.
  • Inventory control of the materials used for your job description.
  • Keeping your work area clean and presentable daily.
  • Training and guiding apprentices.

The physical demands and work environment described below are representative of those that an associate must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully.

  • The associate must possess the ability to stand in place for long periods of time; walk in the store; bend, stoop and kneel regularly
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and to move and handle boxes of merchandise and fixtures throughout the service department, which entails lifting and performing all functions as set forth above in the job description.
